About Me.

I have always loved animals, there was something about the natural world that I was so drawn to. I began horse riding, and I knew right then and there that I wanted animals in my life in some way.

My first job was at a stables, it was a Sunday job that I did when I was in high school. During which time, I was also attending college. It was something my school did, we had different ‘pathways’, that allowed us to choose what would be most beneficial for our future careers. I chose Pathway 5, which was ‘Animal care’. As they couldn’t teach this onsite at school, we went to college to do this. So, my last 2 years of high school, also meant my first 2 years of college.

By the time I got my GCSE and Level 2 Animal Care qualifications, I had decided I wanted to be a zookeeper. I went to college, carried out volunteering in a variety of places, from working with domestic cats through to working with rhinos and giraffes.  I continued on to studying at university, working in a retail store, and carrying on my voluntary work anywhere I could. During my time in college and university, I had travelled to Spain, Prague, Amsterdam, and South Africa. Talking to keepers, conservationists, scientists and sharing knowledge and experience with people who were just like me.

Once university had finished, I had a summer of working in my retail position, then I left for South Africa. During my 2 months there, I met people that inspired me, worked alongside scientists, conservationists, enthusiasts and watched as humans helped in the fight against animal extinction. I want to join this fight, to be the voice for the voiceless, to make sure that the species I see today are the species that future generations see in years to come.

Ever since this trip, I have continued on my journey. Completing my MSc in Conservation, researching technologies in conservation and how that will benefit birds, becoming a TEFL certified teacher so that I can help people achieve their goals. I started this blog so that the bridge between my paths can be joined as one.

Here you will find blog posts on what is happening in the world of conservation, how I am where I am and where conservation, technology, sustainability, and the natural world is going next.
